Counselor's Corner Announcements
Thank you to our Lake Ridge Community Members!
I want to give a special thank you to Century 21 New Millennium and Lake Ridge Fellowship as well as our Lake Ridge Elementary School parents who have generously supplied school supplies for those in need.  Thank you so much for your donations and continued support of our school!
LRES Celebrates Good Character!

In honor of LRES Character Counts Week - October 17-21, we want to show that good character really does count.  On Monday, October 31st, we are going to have our school picture. Each grade level will be wearing a different color
shirt to represent the six pillars of character as a reminder that
good character counts!

K – Orange (Fairness)
1st – Purple (Citizenship)
2nd – Yellow (Respect)
3rd – Green (Responsibility)
4th – Blue (Trustworthy)
5th – Red (Caring)

Good character is like a good habit. Once you get it started, it’s hard to forget!
Omega-Man & Friends Visits LRES!
LRES is a NO-BULLY ZONE!

We do all we can to prevent bullying. A special presentation was given on September 29, 2011 by Omega-Man & Friends.  Students were encouraged to be Dream-Makers, who make good choices and not Dream-Breakers by making unwise/bad choices.

They described three main forms of bullying:

1.  Physical bullying - hitting or punching
2.  Verbal bullying - teasing or name calling
3.  Nonverbal bullying or emotional bullying - intimidation using gestures or social exclusion and sending insulting messages by e-mail (cyberbullying).

Ways to Prevent Bullying Behaviors
  • Respect Everyone
  • Bystanders (persons who witnessed the bullying). Tell an adult and tell the bully to stop it!  Don't do this alone, there is strength in numbers.
  • Be a friend to the person being bullied, invite them to join you at recess or sit by you at lunch.
  • Be a leader not a follower in doing the right things
Mrs. Sanders and classroom teachers held Discipline Assemblies for each of the grade levels during the month of October to ensure students understand the expectations for behaving as quality students.  When incidents occur, Minor and Major Infraction Forms are used to keep track of any behavior issues.  If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us at 703.494.9153.  The Discipline Committee always welcomes any new ideas that will help to make our school a safe place for everyone.  This year, I am excited to announce, a team of our staff members will be trained on the Olweus Bully Prevention Program, which will be implemented next school year.

Your support is always greatly appreciated!

Welcoming Committees
Dear LRES Families,

It has been a pleasure meeting our newest Lake Ridge Lions!  We are now in the process of forming our Welcoming Committees.  Each classroom teacher will selects two or three students in their classroom to help make our new students feel welcome in their new school. They are generally the first to greet our new students and introduce them to the classroom teacher and give them a mini tour of the school.  I am looking forward to training our new Welcoming Committee members.
